New endless possibilities with the Eagle Mark 3

From the middle of August we now have the use of the most advanced aerial camera system from Vexcel, the UltraCam Eagle M3. The size of one PAN photograph is 26 460 x 17 004 px, meaning an image size of 450 Mpx; the physical size of one pixel is 4 micrometres. At a flight altitude of 2 500 m and with a GSD of 10 cm the actual size of the area captured in a single shot is a remarkable 2 646 metres transversely and 1 700 metres in the direction of flight. This means that less than half the number of images needs to be taken of the area compared to our existing UltraCam Xp. The camera can record an image every one and a half seconds.

Our EM3 is currently installed in the Beechcraft Super King Air B200 of our partner Weser Airborne Sensing. The camera underwent a real baptism of fire in taking images over the complicated Alpine terrain around Zell am See, where Grossglockner, the highest mountain in Austria, is also situated, and where we were able to capture aerial imagery of 20 cm GSD, with 80/45 % overlaps, over an area of almost 5.500 km² within mere three aerial missions.
